What are varicose veins?
Varicose veins, otherwise known as varicose or varicosities, occur when your veins get dilated, enlarged, and overfilled with blood. These appear swollen, raised and a bluish-purple or red color. They are usually painful and occur on the lower legs.

The main symptoms of varicose veins are quite visible, deformed veins, often on lower legs. Other symptoms include pain, swelling, achiness, and heaviness over and around the swollen veins.
How to prevent varicose veins
· Lose weight if you are overweight or obese.
· Sitting or standing in the same position for longer duration increases the chances of varicose veins. So, keep moving your body at regular intervals to enhance blood circulation.
· Yoga as well as deep breathing relax the veins and promote healthy valve function.
· Avoid wearing high heels too often.
· Make sure you are putting on comfortable clothes around waist, groin, and legs. Tight clothes lead to discomfort.
· While relaxing, pregnant women should raise their legs above their heart level for the easy blood flow towards the heart and prevent swelling in the feet.
· Avoid itching around the varicose veins. This can lead to bleeding and further, ulceration.
· In order to maintain a healthy vascular system, make sure you drink a glass of carrot juice or mint and coriander juice.
· Take a diet rich in fiber including whole grain cereals, pulses, green leafy vegetables, and fruits helps prevent constipation, maintains a healthy vascular system, and eliminates toxins from the blood.
· Eat plenty of bioflavonoid rich foods such as blackberries, apricots, blueberries, and cherries. They have an antioxidant called rutin, which maintains a good vascular health.
· Eat a diet low in sugar, red meat, and saturated fats to avoid further damage to veins.
